Coaching

It is difficult to learn a foreign language. It is harder when you do not have someone to give you the answers you are looking for when you need them. Having a mentor or a coach would have been amazing for me as a learner. Here are some areas where I have struggled in my journey.

When I was learning English, I used to listen to the soundtracks of American shows to help me learn the right pronunciation.  Many times, I would have difficulty deciphering the spoken phrases or sentences no matter how many times I listened to them, but I had no one to ask. This was so frustrating for me.

The monolingual English dictionaries would give me the definition of an unknown word in other unknown words. It was a challenge to write correct sentences when you do not have the right words. As you may know, bilingual dictionaries do not always give the correct definitions or words to use either. This was another struggle I had.

Sometimes I just did not understand a question in a test. If you do not know what the question asks, there is no way you can answer it. Who do you go to for help? I sure did not have anyone to ask except when I was around my teachers, which was only at school.

I remember when I first started learning English as a 10-year-old. I had such a hard time understanding the difference between “I am going to school…” and “I am going to go to school.” As a little kid, I was too shy to ask. I still remember the question marks swimming in my head as I was trying to learn it. If I felt comfortable enough to ask my teacher, I am sure I would have gotten better grades!

All these struggles would have been solved if I had had a language coach or mentor. Not only did I need someone to teach me what I needed to learn, I also needed someone to understand the challenges I faced and to help me go further in my learning. We all need a person to cheer us on. Let me be the one for you!

Test Prep

Did you know that there are test-taking strategies you can learn to help you become a proficient test-taker? I can help you get ahead with some tips so you are ready to tackle any test you may be taking.

Tests are a part of life. If you have been studying English for a while, I am sure you have had to take many tests. If you want to study, work or live in a country where English is the official language, there are some tests you need to get a good score on. It may be the TOEFL/TEFL test, the GRE, or the formal interviews for getting a permit for residence or citizenship. As a person who has had to take all of the tests I mentioned, I can help you to achieve your goals.

On the other hand, you may have been living in the U.S. for a while and want to get a high school diploma. I can help you with the GED test, which is available to those who are above a certain age to attend a high school. Or you may need to take the SAT or the ACT, which are required to apply for college admissions or scholarships. With the tools I will equip you with, you will be able to do well in these tests.
